The ASEAN Digital Credentials Platform (AKREDI) is developed by Dynamik Technologies in partnership with TrustGrid and ASEAN Business Advisory Council (BAC) Brunei, with the support of the ASEAN Economic Ministers (AEM), the ASEAN Secretariat and the ASEAN Digital Transformation Working Group. Originally an ASEAN-Brunei Year Legacy Project in response to calls for safer post-pandemic borders reopening, the concept and prototype was launched at the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit 2021 as the ASEAN Digital Gateway and Travel Wallet.
The first phase of AKREDI will be to demonstrate the successful and seamless functionality of blockchain-based digital credentials in regional use and build the “innovators and early adopters” user base, while respecting each country’s data sovereignty policies. Starting with COVID-19 vaccination certificates based on the EU-DCC standards and Brunei’s BruHealth, the future roadmap for AKREDI will be focusing on business, professional, social and student roles and documents required for cross-border authentication within the region. This is envisioned to help achieve the goals of ASEAN Digital Economy Integration, outlined in the Bandar Seri Begawan Roadmap.
Akredi is built utilising TrustGrid technology, a cloud-native digital identity and privacy platform which utilizes innovative cryptography and trusted, scalable digital assets technology. Automatically deployed on Azure confidential computing infrastructure, the cryptographic keys to the service execution are always owned by consortium members. At the same time, the ownership of the data resides within the Akredi app in the end-user’s smartphone.
